About Our Firm
W. P. Carey & Co. LLC is an investment management company that provides long-term sale-leaseback and build-to-suit financing for companies worldwide and manages a global investment portfolio worth more than $10 billion. Publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange (WPC), W. P. Carey and its CPA® series of income-generating, non-traded REITs help companies release capital tied up in real estate assets. Now in our 35th year, the W. P. Carey Group’s investments are highly diversified, comprising contractual agreements with more than 300 tenants spanning 28 industries and 14 countries.
Founded in 1973 by Wm. Polk Carey, W. P. Carey has historically focused on two objectives: to provide quality companies with capital to run their businesses and to create investment products that work in good times and bad. We’ve grown tremendously over the last three decades because we’ve been successful on both fronts.
Global Net Lease Financier
Our investment experts advise quality companies and private equity firms, helping them create customized, flexible and results-driven financing structures for leveraged buyouts, recapitalizations and acquisitions.
- W. P. Carey pioneered the sale-leaseback as a mainstream form of financing in the U.S. and has been a leader in introducing sale-leasebacks to corporations and governmental entities throughout Europe and now in Asia.
- Over our 35-year history, we have provided long-term financing solutions to more than 250 companies.
- In 2007, we provided more than $1 billion in sale-leaseback and build-to-suit financing to companies worldwide.

Investment Manager
- W. P. Carey’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Carey Asset Management Corp., currently serves as the advisor to four non-traded real estate investment trusts (REITs), CPA®:14, CPA®:15, CPA®:16 – Global and CPA®:17 – Global.
- The CPA® REITs follow the same long-term investment approach we put in to practice when we opened our doors in 1973; by focusing primarily on tenant creditworthiness, building long-term relationships with tenants, and diversifying portfolios by tenant industry, geographic location and property type, our programs have provided investors a steady cash flow throughout varying economic cycles.
- Since we launched Corporate Property Associates in 1979, W. P. Carey and the CPA® programs have raised $3.8 billion in equity and paid more than $2.5 billion over 750 quarterly cash distributions to investors.
- Eighty-eight percent of our quarterly distributions have increased and we have never missed a quarterly payment. No full-term investor in our CPA® REITs has lost money.
